Obituary for Betty Jane "Edna" Blankenship

Betty Jane (Edna) Blankenship, 92, of Hurley gained her angel wings on Palm Sunday, April 10th, 2022, at home with her family by her side.

Edna was born June 15, 1929, in Panther, WV and lived in Hurley, VA for 75 years. She was the daughter of the late Clark and Allie Blankenship.

She was a born-again Christian for 62 years and a prayer warrior which was the most important thing to her. If you needed prayer, you called Sister Edna. She loved to sing and made a gospel CD at the age of 80. She loved to visit any church and give her testimony. She loved to garden, preserve her bounty, and loved to cook and feed everyone that she visited or came to her home, where the doors were always open. She worked in the cafeteria at Hurley Schools for 18 years. She was well known for her chicken & dumplings and fried apple pies. She loved to sew and make quilts for friends and family. She would always say “I’m gonna live to be 100 or die trying” and “Heaven will be worth the journey”.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Leonard Blankenship; son, Auldia Blankenship; daughters, Wanda Baker and infant Tammy; grandson, Bertrum R (Butch) Scott III; brothers, Lacy and James Elmer, sisters, Edith, Hazel, Nell, Maggie, and Norma Jean.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Patricia (Bert) Scott, Linda Powers, Judy (Bob) Keen, and foster daughter Marcia (Chris) Reschar, sons, Austin (Margaret) Blankenship and Terry (Athelene) Blankenship; grandchildren, Tim Blankenship, Anthony Blankenship, Shelley (Gary) Adkins, Brigitte (Chris) Corley, Jonathan (Nikki) Blankenship, Tamara (Ray) Rivera, Ray (Jessica) Blankenship, Travis (Holly) Blankenship, Ashley (Chris) Baker, Ryan Keen; great-grandchildren Justin, Rhett, Christian, Chase, Ashley, Tara, Alexis, Tyla, Lionel (Bear), Jaime, Christopher, Leilani, Olivia, Garrett, Sadie; brothers, Vernor, Claude, and Arnold Blankenship and sister, Media Winters.
