Obituary for Danielle "Dani" C. Lester Papenfus
Danielle “Dani” C. Lester Papenfus, age 36, passed away January 12, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tennessee, following an extended illness.
She resided in Bristol, Tennessee, and was previously employed by Food City as a cake decorator. She was a member of the Knox Creek Volunteer Fire Department at Hurley, Virginia, for six years. She attended school at Hurley High School and J. J. Kelly High School.
She was born on July 16, 1986. She was the daughter of Donna Sue Estep McCoy of Hurley, Virginia. She rededicated her life to Jesus and was baptized on December 28, 2022. She loved firefighting, riding her favorite horse, Dreamer, woodcrafting, spending time with family, and things in nature, such as swimming, camping, hiking, and bonfires.
She was a seventeen year survivor of AML Leukemia. The greatest love in her life were her children, family, and her loyal friend, Jenna.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents, Roy Estep and Maybell Rash Estep of Hurley, Virginia, and maternal great-grandparents, Arvil Lee Colley and Uva Viers Colley of Dickenson County, Virginia.
Survivors include her children, Ethan Shawn Matney of Hurley, Virginia, and Lilly Elyse Papenfus of Johnson City, Tennessee; mother, Donna Sue Estep McCoy of Hurley, Virginia; stepdad, Carter McCoy of Saint Paul, Virginia; grandparents, Donald and Etta Ruth Colley Estep of Hurley, Virginia; aunt, Sharon (Jamie) Duty of Hurley, Virginia; uncle, Chris (Kelly) Estep of Hurley, Virginia; special aunt, Precellia Colley Jackson of Vansant, Virginia.
She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, loyal friend, Jenna, and special cousin, Jessie.
There will be a service for Danielle Papenfus, on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia at 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at 6:00 P.M., prior to the service at 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services for Danielle Papenfus, will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, 1:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia, with Gary Charles and Tim Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the Misty Mountain Lane Cemetery, Hurley, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
