Obituary for Dorothy Jean Looney
Dorothy Jean Looney, age 69, of Grundy, Virginia, went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, February 24, 2023, at her home in Grundy, Virginia, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Born September 10, 1953, in Grundy, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Luther Adkins and Dora Davis Adkins. She loved her children, grandbabies, and great-grandbabies. She was an avid gardener. Jean was a friend and mother to every person she met. She worked in the Buchanan School System for approximately thirty plus years. She always had a smile and scripture for anyone who was feeling down. If you told her, you loved her, she would always say, “I love you more”. Jean was a strong, independent, woman who will truly be missed by everyone who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertie McGlothlin, Ruby Charles, and Betty Buchanan; one brother, Luther Adkins Jr.; and one nephew, Tony White.

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Looney will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, 2:00 P.M., at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia, with Ronnie Hurley officiating, with burial to follow at the Adkins Family Cemetery, Watkins Street, Grundy, Virginia.
The family will receive friends at the Virginia Funeral Home, Grundy, Virginia, on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 6:00 P.M., where a service will be held at 7:00 P.M.
Active pallbearers will be Shawn Looney, Preston Hurley, Ethan Adkins, John Lowdermilk, Travis Stacy, Lucas Shortridge, Bobby Baker, Jeremy Stacy, Albert Childress, and Josh Mullins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Looney, Marty Goff, Doug Shortridge, Will Hibbitts, Anthony Church, Tim Bane, Richard Charles, Lloyd Cook, and Taylor Burgess.
