Ernest Edward Kennedy, age 78 of the Slate Creek section of Grundy, Virginia died at his home on Friday, February 25, 2022.
Born April 9, 1943, at Jolo, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Richard Kennedy and Ida Bell Wimmer Kennedy. He was a member of the Crossview Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Whitewood High School, class of 1961, a United States Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion Post number 175 of Bradshaw, West Virginia, and a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, number 17, of Grundy, Virginia. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a retired life insurance agent for Monumental Life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and James or Junior Kennedy; four sisters, Sarah Stacy, Melvina McCoy, Irene Cantrell, and Ruth Rife.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Hilda Allen Mullins Kennedy; one son Ernie Kennedy (Kimberly) of Fairfield, Virginia; one daughter Sherry Mullins (Tim) of Rosedale, Virginia, two stepsons, Johnnie Hayes and Kenneth Hayes; two brothers, Hobert Kennedy (Kathy) of Grundy, Virginia, and Harold Kennedy (Vivian) of Richlands, Virginia; three grandsons, Adam, Ryan, and T.J. Mullins; and one granddaughter, Lea Jane Kennedy; special sister-in-law, Sylvia Mullins.
A Military Funeral Service for Ernest Edward Kennedy will be conducted on Monday, February 28, 2022, 12:00 Noon at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia, with the American Legion Post number 175 of Bradshaw, West Virginia. John Belcher and Pastor Robert Rife will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia.
The family will receive friends, 6:00 P.M., Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the Virginia Funeral Home, Grundy, Virginia. A service will be held at 7:00 P.M.
Serving as active pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lester, Keith and Rita Kennedy, Robert Rife, Ira Allen, Chuck Allen, Ricky and Olva Kennedy, James and Lois Cantrell, Angela Deel, Anthony Osborne, Astor Ward, Bill Mullins, Teresa Lester, Bonnie Blankenship, Marsha Whited, Edgar and Kathy Blankenship, and Vickie Lester.
