Obituary for Gerald E. Davis

Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Gerald E. Davis 85, of Paynesville, West Virginia, passed away on December 31, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.

Gerald was born March 22,1937, to Linkous and Lilly Mullins Davis of Paynesville, West Virginia. Gerald later married Maxine Baker Davis and went on to have three children, Ed Davis of Grundy, Virginia, Steve Davis of Grundy, Virginia, and Patty Vance of Archdale, North Carolina.

After Gerald graduated from Iaeger High School he moved to Ohio to work in Farming. Later Gerald returned with his family to West Virginia to work for the State Road and later worked for the coal mining industry.

Gerald was an avid hunter, gardener, and gun trader. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a member of Crossview Church of Christ and loved his church family.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Davis; mother, Lillie Davis; father, Linkous Davis; brothers, Elmer Davis, Matthew Davis, Lawrence Davis, and Charlie Davis.

He is survived by his children, Ed, Steve (Tara), Patty (Tony); grandchildren, Chris Vance (Michelle), Isabel Vance, Maribel Vance, Ray Lester (Stephanie), Logan Davis, Gracie Davis; great-grandchildren, James, Ezra, Kasha, Winry, and Casey; three brothers, Roman Davis, Ezra Davis, Jr., Farley Davis; and one sister, Joyce Blasi. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Gerald will be greatly missed, but we know he is happy to be with his much loved wife, Maxine.

Funeral services for Gerald Davis will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, 12:00 Noon at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia, with Hobert Kennedy and Charlie Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee Davis Cemetery, Davis Mountain Road, Grundy, Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 3, 2023, 6:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home, Grundy, Virginia, where a service will be held at 7:00 P.M.

Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.

Instead of flowers and in honor of his memory, the family requests donations be made to his home church Crossview Church of Christ, 1139 Panther Ridge Road, Grundy, Virginia, 24614, to help the local community.
