Obituary for Jackie Ray Horn
Jackie Ray Horn, age 68 of Paynesville, West Virginia passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, in Morgantown, West Virginia after battling a long chronic illness.
Born November 20, 1953, at Welch West Virginia, he was the youngest of eleven children born to Johnnie and Floy Wagner Horn. Being raised on Bradshaw Mountain in a large family so full of love was very special to Jackie. He especially enjoyed being with his brothers and sisters, many cousins and friends, whether being outside pitching horseshoes or inside playing a game of Rook. Along with his parents, siblings, Joyce Lester, Flim Horn, Dorothy Barker, Maxine Horn, Hank Horn, and Wayne Horn have all gone before him.
A 1971 graduate of Iaeger High School, Jackie was a proud UMWA member who provided well for his family while working in the coal mines. He walked hundreds of miles competition coon hunting, usually with a Redtick English hound, and was an AKC Master of Hounds. He loved to listen to the dogs “run”, enjoyed keeping a clean pickup truck, and loved to talk about cars.
Jackie is the father to Wendy Adams and husband Allan of Jolo, West Virginia and Jessie Horn and wife Jamie of Reidsville, North Carolina; Papaw to four granddaughters, Alaina Horn, Micah (Ricky) Dunford, Johnna (Joey) Sparks, and Alisha Adams; four grandsons, Samuel Adams, Isaac Horn, Caleb Horn, and Allan Adams II.
He is blessed with three great grandbabies, Matthias Dunford, Ainsleigh and Eden Sparks.
Four sisters who will miss him greatly are Nadine Hinton, Peggy Cantrell, Thelma Rouch, and Brenda (Donnie) Rash.
At his best, Jackie was humble, well read, and had a quick sense of humor, God was certainly good to him throughout his life.
Funeral services for Jackie Ray Horn will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, 11:00 A.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia with Reverend Charles Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the C.M. Horn Memorial Cemetery on Brushy Ridge Road, Paynesville, West Virginia.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. prior to the funeral service at 11:00 A.M.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons.
