Obituary for Juanita Dowdy
Juanita Dowdy, age 78, of Hurley, Virginia passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.
Born January 13, 1943, at Hurley, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late McKinley Dotson and Dollie Mounts Dotson. Juanita was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, going to church, and talking with her friends on the phone. She loved spending time with her grandson Peyton. She was a member of the Elk Creek Freewill Baptist
Church for over 30 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Clayton Dowdy, Jr.; four brothers, Thurman “Dave” Dotson, Elzie Dotson, Luther Coleman, and Russell Dotson. Five sisters, Fronia Hurley, Gladys Fisher, Dora Hunt, Pearly Dotson, and Sylvia Dotson. Juanita was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services for Juanita Dowdy will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, 12:00 Noon at the Elk Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Elk Creek Drive, Hurley, Virginia with Hassell Rife, Ervin Dotson, and Tommy Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:00 P.M. at the church. A service will be held at 7:00 P.M.
Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bobby and Joann Hunt and the ICU nurses at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.
Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy, Virginia is in charge of the arrangements.
