Obituary for Kansas Cole

Kansas Cole, age 89 of Compton Mountain, Virginia and formerly of Slate Creek Virginia, in Buchanan County, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Grundy, Virginia.

Born August 31, 1932, in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Edd and Nancy Thornsbury Keen. She was a retired cook at Mountain Mission School after 6 years, and a retired kitchen supervisor at Buchanan General Hospital after 12 years.

Kansas was a member of the Crossview Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and caring for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gallie Cole of 66 years; one daughter, Peggy Ann Cole Coleman; two granddaughters, Leslie Ann Coleman and Jennifer Lynn Coleman; two sisters, Audrey Mae Keen Matney and Alice Justus; also four brothers, Hufford, Earl, Jack, and Joseph Keen all of the Grundy area.

She is survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins. She loved them all.
She is also survived by her cats, Tigger and Blue.

Funeral services for Kansas Cole will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, 12:00 Noon at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia with Pastor Hobert Kennedy officiating. Members of the church will be singing hymns that Kansas Requested. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home. A service will be held at 7:00 PM.

Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
