Obituary for Kennith Ray Hicks

Kennith Ray Hicks, age 68, of Paynesville, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2022, in the comfort of his home with his loved ones by his side, after a long illness.

He was born on February 7, 1954, to the late Amos Hicks and Edna Hart Hicks. He was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith. He was a member of the Old Samaritan Church, member of the UMWA, and enjoyed playing and working with heavy equipment.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty-four years, Donna Rowe Hicks; and one son, Kenneth Ray Hicks Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of ten years, Sue Ann Shortridge Deel Hicks of Paynesville, West Virginia; daughter, Renee Ball and husband Frank of Bristol, Virginia; bonus son, Josh Deel and wife Rachel of Stamping Ground, Kentucky; bonus daughter, Missy Owens and husband Todd of Grundy, Virginia; bonus grandchildren, Cody Charles, Timothy Charles, Tiffany Smith, Kody Smith, Randy Ball, Emily Ball, Shawn Ball, Sydney Owens, Maggie Deel, Alice Deel, Lilah Deel, and Winnie Deel; bonus great-grandchildren, Addison Ball, Levi Allen Baldwin, and Hudson Baldwin; brothers, Joe Hicks, Estel Hicks, Alfred Hicks, Gabriel Hicks, Aaron Hicks, and John Hicks; sisters, Wilda Looney, Ann Poore, Lucinda Kennedy, and Athena Duty. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

A funeral service for Kennith Ray Hicks will be conducted on Saturday, November 26, 2022, 1:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia, with Elders Gary Estep, Steve Baker, and Stanley Stacy officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:00 Noon prior to the service at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at the H. Woody Cemetery, Paynesville, West, Virginia.

Serving as pallbearers will be Vester McCoy, Sterling Payne, Steven “Pretty Boy” Hagerman, Frank Ball, Josh Deel, Todd Owen, and Michael Poore.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Earl Cook, Homer Hopkins, Jeff Hopkins, Josh Hicks, Leon Mitchell, and Eddie Pruitt.
