Obituary for Lonnie Wayne Wolford
Lonnie Wayne Wolford, 77 years old of the Looneys Creek section of Grundy, VA., passed away Friday February 10, 2023, at his home. He was born on March 15, 1945. He was the son of the late Anthony Wayne and Eva Mae McClanahan Wolford of Home Creek, VA. Lonnie was a disabled coal miner who loved meeting people and talking with friends around town. He also loved helping others with carpentry work and working around their homes with various projects. Most of all he loved family and would do anything to help, even if it meant him going without. He was a member of the Church of Jesus in Grundy, Virginia. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a friend to many.
In addition to his parents Anthony Wayne and Eva Mae McClanahan Wolford, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy (Doris) Wolford; sisters, Donna Vandyke, and Lucy Bennet.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Ondik Wolford; son, Rodney Lee and wife Tammie Renee Wolford of Tazewell, VA.; daughter, Heather Chantel and husband Travis Shawn Matney of Honaker, VA.; stepdaughter, Debbie Smith and husband Danny of Lodi, California. He is also survived by grandchildren, Daniel McKenze and wife Kelsey Brighton Wolford of Englewood, Ohio, Virginia Brooke and husband Joshua Tyler Greer of Grundy, VA., Katherine Grace Matney of Honaker, VA., Anthony Isaac Wolford of Tazewell, VA., and Maggie Emily Matney of Honaker, VA.; great-grandchild, Ainsleigh Reign Greer of Grundy, VA.; step-grandchildren, Candace Smith, Sammy Smith, Joey Smith; sisters, Shirley Mae and husband Sammy Akers of Abingdon, VA., and Linda Gay Pritchett of Charlottesville, VA.; brothers, William Roy Wolford of Florence, SC., and Ronnie Darrell and wife Sarah Wolford of Charlottesville, VA.; special sister-in-law, Maggie Nadine Skeens of Grundy, VA; and many friends.
Funeral services for Lonnie Wayne Wolford will be conducted at the Church of Jesus in Grundy, VA., Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Mike Ashby, Pastor Charlie Deel, and Pastor Scottie Maxfield officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
Friends may call after 6:00 P.M. Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Church of Jesus, Grundy, Virginia, prior to the service at 7:00 P.M.
