Obituary for Sharon Kay Payne Ward
Sharon Kay Payne Ward, age 66 of Grundy, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Born September 2, 1955, in McDowell County, Paynesville West, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Hobart C. Payne and Florence Viars Payne. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County.
Sharon attended the Crossview Church of Christ, Panther Ridge Road, Grundy, Virginia. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Sharon loved going to the beach, cooking, and entertaining family, friends, and guests. She never met a stranger. Sharon worked for the Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA for forty years, and the Virginia Employment Commission Agency, all in Grundy, Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Payne and Billy Homer Payne.

Funeral services for Sharon Kay Ward will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, 7:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel in Grundy, Virginia with Hobert Kennedy officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, 2022, 6:00 P.M. prior to the service at 7:00 P.M.
In honor of Sharon’s wishes her body will be cremated.
