Obituary for Stella Ruth Ratliff Smith Boyd
Stella Ruth Ratliff Smith Boyd, age 96, of Grundy, Virginia, went to her Heavenly Home, on December 9, 2022.
She was born on September 2, 1926, to the parents of the late Earl Profitt Ratliff and Pearl Vandyke Ratliff. She was a member of the Oakwood Church of Christ, and a lifelong resident of Buchanan County. She was a successful business owner and operator of Nanny’s Hallmark in Grundy, Virginia. Stella was an employee of the Fairway of Grundy, Virginia, beginning in 1953, until the closing of the Hallmark Store in the spring of 2013. Everyone will remember her for her elegant wrapping skills, penmanship, and her Hallmark ornament selections.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Henry Smith; second husband, Therman Estel Boyd; brothers and sisters, Elmer Ratliff, Bascom Ratliff, Ruby Ratliff, Nell Belcher, Charles Ratliff, and Emory Ratliff; two nephews, Joe Belcher and Steve Ratliff; canine companion, Tinker Bell; feline companion, Myrtle.
She married William Henry Smith in 1950. They were married until his death in 1975. She was fortunate to find love again and married Therman Estel Boyd in 1994. They were married until his death in 2006.

Of the seven deceased brothers and sisters, Stella has one sister left to carry on her memory, Mrs. Helen Elswick of Hudson, North Carolina.

With her second marriage to Therman Estel Boyd, she was blessed to gain the following stepchildren: Charlene Silvis, Gary Boyd Sr., and Kaye Keen, six step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held for Stella Boyd on Monday, December 12, 2022, 2:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, Virginia with Jeff Taylor, Joe Scroggins, and Larry Arnold officiating, and song leader, Andrew Horne. The family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M., prior to the service at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be John Ratliff, Craig Ratliff, David Ratliff, James Deel, Ronnie Prater, and Jeff Shortt.
