Obituary for Stella Charlotta Keene Cook

Stella Charlotta Keene Cook, age 85, of Tazewell, Virginia, went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center, in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Born February 5, 1938, in Grundy, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Keene and Virginia Ellen Ward Keene. She was of the Christian Faith, enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, camping, and gardening.

As we lay our precious Stella to rest, there is so many things we can say about who she was.
She was a loving wife of fourteen years to her husband Charlie, who she loved so much. A grieving mother to her precious daughters, Debra and Pamela who both became Angels shortly after their birth. A mother to her nephew Donald, who she raised and loved as her own. A wonderful stepmother to Lloyd, Sue, Alvin, Charles Allen and Kyetia, she loved them all. She was always “Mamaw Stella” to her niece, Haley along with numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was an amazing sister to her twelve siblings and their spouses, always preparing meals and having cook outs, always worrying and praying for each of them. She was a wonderful aunt to so many nieces and nephews, who she loved and adored so much. She was even a loving pup mom to her little dog, Toby who lifted her up on rough days.

She was a God fearing, Christian woman, who worshipped God and prayed every day. Giving him thanks even on her worst days. Last, but not least, she was a wonderful friend, someone who cared about everyone and left an impact on everyone she met. Her beautiful smile will forever remain in our memories and will always remind us that whether she is gone or she had stayed, she’s a winner either way! We love you Stella!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Debra Mullins and Pamela Mullins; sisters, Shirley Marshall and Lenora Pennington; brothers, Arnold Keene, Denny Keene, and Dewey Stanley Keene; husbands, Hassell Mullins and Herbert Bowman.
