Obituary for Thomas Harry Griffith
Thomas Harry Griffith, a lifelong resident of Hurley, Virginia, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the age of 74 following an extended illness.
Tommy was born to the late Clyde Griffith and Bessie Justus Griffith on November 9,1947. He was a 1965 graduate of Hurley High School.
Upon graduation Tommy served in the US Airforce during the Vietnam Conflict. He was stationed at Beale Air Force Base from 1966-1968 in Marysville, California. He was later stationed in Okinawa, Japan until 1970.
After serving his country, Tommy returned to Hurley in 1970 and entered into the civilian workforce. He retired in 2003 as Ventilation Supervisor for MSHA.
He was preceded in death by one infant grandson, Gabriel Griffith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janice Hutchinson Griffith, of Hurley, Virginia. Two sons: Thomas Harry Griffith Jr. of Georgetown, KY and Gregory Scott Griffith of Bristol, TN. Three grandsons: Gregory Ryan Griffith (Alexis) of Christiansburg, VA., Timothy Scott Griffith and James William Griffith of Richlands, VA.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 06, 2022, 1:00 P.M. at Virginia Funeral Home, Grundy, Virginia, with Those Andel Hurley, Jim Belcher, and Ken Runyon officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at Virginia Funeral Home with service at 7:00 P.M.
